Hardwood mulch is an excellent mulch option for landscapes, flowerbeds, gardens or even as a decorative yet natural looking walking path. Sloped areas are especially ideal for shredded hardwood mulch as the mulch is a bit stringy which holds the mulch in place. When you install your premium aged hardwood mulch a general rule is three inches deep which helps hold moisture and suppresses weeds from growing. Hardwood bark mulch is ideal to be used in fall for insulating plants, bulbs and seeds from harsh winters or early blooming.
Our premium aged hardwood mulch typically has a fresh sawmill oak smell when mulch is fresh off the pile but doesn’t hold the aroma long. Uncommon but occasionally pockets of obnoxious gas can form in large piles of mulch from the aging and decomposing process. Rolling the pile introduces air which generally aids to remove gas and smell. If your natural hardwood mulch has an unpleasant odor after installing you can often quickly remove smell by watering down mulch heavily and rotating it with a rake to add air aiding to release any remaining odor.
